From here you have a great view over the Danube to the monastery. On the way to the ferry there is a great view around the monastery, which makes a detour here worth it.

The crossing with a barge from the north bank of the Danube directly to the gravel beach of the Weltenburg monastery is a "must have"! and then enjoy the atmosphere of the baroque church followed by a snack with a monastery beer. Then it goes on with a barge to the Danube Gorge and a subsequent hike over the "Klösterl" to Kehlheim.

Hiking at Weltenburg Monastery & Danube Gorge

For me, there is almost nothing better than exploring nature on foot. The region around the narrow part of the Danube is a real hiking paradise. There are so many different hiking trails that you may be a bit overwhelmed at first. Basically, the routes at Weltenburg Monastery are divided into various main hiking trails, circular hiking trails and national hiking trails.

Hiking with a fantastic view

When angels travel - the sun doesn't always shine! On our last visit in March, we planned a hike from Kelheim. Unfortunately, the weather was crazy. Heavy rain, thunderstorms and sunshine gave us early April weather. With a heavy heart, we therefore decided to do a mini-tour from the monastery. During the tour we got completely wet twice, but at least we were able to experience pleasant sections along the bank.

A beautiful view of the monastery from here – and the crossing with the "Zille" ferry runs reliably every 15-20 minutes, probably just like it did 1,000 years ago! The last return trip is at 6:00 PM. The Weltenburger beer in the monastery garden is of the highest quality! One of the best beers I've ever had: Kloster Barock Dunkel.
