The medieval Spøttrup Castle.
Unique, one-of-a-kind, beautiful, and mighty are just some of the words that have been used to describe the medieval Spøttrup Castle since it was restored and converted into a museum in 1941. Today, Spøttrup Castle is the best-preserved medieval castle in Denmark. It is a miracle that the castle has survived the test of time. The castle's various owners have treated it with varying understanding of its uniqueness.
The castle gives an impression of how construction was carried out for the purpose of defense in the Middle Ages. Building a strong castle was the most important thing – whether the dwelling was comfortable was secondary.
Spøttrup Castle shows what life was like in a castle in the Middle Ages. Holes for the cannons that helped defend the castle have still been preserved, and the famous nine medieval toilet shafts on the castle walls bear witness to everyday life 500 years ago.
Directly adjacent to the castle lies the restored Spøttrup Lake, which provides a habitat for many animals and birds. A network of trails leads around the lake. The birdwatching tower houses an exhibition about the local birds and animals. Behind the castle is a beautiful park, always worth a visit with its medicinal and aromatic herb garden.

Every year, the Spøttrup Borg Museum hosts numerous activities, from music and exhibitions to theater and market days.
