"In 1815, the cloth-making company Peter Schürmann & Schröder, which had existed in Lennep since 1793, took ownership of the old hammer mills in Vogelsmühle. The first factory building of the Vogelsmühle cloth factory was erected as a two-story, 15-axle half-timbered building with a quarry stone base to protect against flooding.

The engine house, boiler house and the square chimney from 1831 are separate. Around 1835/40, another three-storey factory building in Bruchstein with a stepped gable was planned by the private master builder Christian Heyden to the north. The building contractor Christian Schmidt creates the building. In 1860, Albert Schmidt erected a five-storey, 18-axle factory building in rubble stone in place of the half-timbered building that had burned down, based on a design by master builder Julius Thomas from Neuss. The widening on two cast-iron support rows, which was carried out at the same time, brings greater utilization for the power transmission through the transmission. Cast iron girders, together with masonry brick caps, are said to provide greater fire safety.
Steam engine house and chimney remain; they will be rebuilt by the new building. The sober functional form is covered with the Gothic ornamental forms that were current at the time, as well as a wide side risalit with a final decorative gable, corner and central turret. ..."
