Today one of the most beautiful timber framing in Soest! But in 1550, for example, an industrial area would have been found there. What was going on at Loerbach?
Archaeological excavations have shown that Loerbach lived and worked as a tanner in the 16th century. It was the perfect place to settle there, because tanneries need a lot of water, and the Soestbach flows directly in front of the door .. Certainly not as channeled as today, probably with shallow shore, the tanner could work there or remove water. Leather was an important material for horses' shoes, saddles and bridles. And thus probably also an important armaments item. Also in that time an important raw material.
Today you can not see it anymore. And the newly created footpath from the Wiesenstrasse there along the Soestbach is one of the most beautiful ways in Soest. You should definitely have gone along there.
