            The popular excursion restaurant Scherershütte was originally a simple cottage. It was built before 1586 as a simple shelter against rain and cold.
            In 1772 the hut was renovated and got a spacious kitchen. In 1800, Ohrdruf's mayor Johann Friedrich Krügelstein (1738-1813) had the hut in the so-called
            Dream book immortalized. The object was already owned by the municipality and served as a popular destination. In 1885, thanks to the Thuringian Forest Association, the footpath through the staff bushes was a significant improvement for day trippers. In 1897 the hut was expanded again and the surroundings were beautified.
            For the numerous guests of the popular excursion site, the large pavilion was built in 1928 at the rear of the property. It served as a summer camp for the children in the 1950s.

            It was sold in 1996 and has been privately owned ever since.
            To this day, the Scherershütte is more popular across generations

                  The popular Scherershütte restaurant was originally a simple bark hut. It was built before 1586 as a simple shelter against rain and cold. Researchers are divided on the name. In his 1844 publication "News from the Town of Ohrdruf", town chronicler Friedrich Krügelstein (1774-1849) names three woodcutters who could be responsible for the building: Andreas, Valten and Michael Scherer. Then there was Nic-las, mentioned by Krügelstein's father. One of the four is the "founder" of the house. In 1772 the hut was renovated and given a spacious kitchen.
