This almost 300 year old pilgrimage chapel stands on the Jakobsberg above Ockenheim. In 1720, pastor Blasius Caesar began building the chapel, which soon became very popular.
In the 20th century, Trappists from the Dutch abbey Echt settled on the Jakobsberg, whose convent was abolished in 1950. After the Jesuits had set up a novitiate and a retreat house here, the Benedictine abbey of St. Ottilien acquired the monastery on Jakobsberg in November 1960, which was elevated to a priory in 1962.
As a youth and adult education center, Jakobsberg today offers a diverse program such as retreats, meditations and days of reflection. In addition to this educational offer, there are also individual guests and small groups who are looking for monastic peace, contemplation and reflection, ...
The cloister gate is also a stamp place on the Jakobspilgerweg in Rheinhessen, where the pilgrim pass can also be purchased. 🚴‍
