Conegliano has always owed its importance to its strategic position. Probably a settlement was already present in Roman times even if the first certain news about it are from the post-Roman era. The same name seems to derive from two Lombard terms indicating the "road of the King", underlining again the strategic importance of this center located on the trade routes between Italy and Northern Europe. The current appearance of the city center can be traced back to the Renaissance period, here the buildings of Palazzo Sarcinelli and Casa Longega stand out in beauty. Conegliano is also home to the first European Enological School, the starting point of the Prosecco and Wines of the Conegliano-Valdobbiadene Hills itinerary.
