In honor of the fiftieth anniversary of his death, a statue was inaugurated in Aalst with an inscription referring to his dedication: The worker must not be a slave or beggar, he must be a free and prosperous man.
Augustinus Adolphus (Adolf) Daens (18 December 1839 – 14 June 1907) was a Belgian cleric and politician. He (together with his brother Pieter) gave his name to Daensism, a socially-Flemish Christian-democratic direction and movement, from which an independent party was founded, namely the Christene Volkspartij, for which he also wrote the program.
