A bearing tower (Spanish: Torres de defensa or Torres d'Enfilació) is a tower built by the Navy on the coast and used for navigation.
This tower supports boats or submarines in determining their position using cross bearings. On the north coast of Mallorca, the Spanish Navy erected 28 sounding towers in pairs at a distance of 1240 meters and 200 meters apart. The towers were used by the Spanish fleet for deck sounding during military exercises between 1941 and 1970. These towers, reminiscent of obelisks with their slender construction, were often painted white with a red marking on the top.

Roman relics in the Bay of Alcudia? Oh no!
The "Torres d'Enfilació", also called "Torres de Defensa", are old direction-finding towers in the Bay of Alcúdia between Port d'Alcúdia and Colònia de Sant Pere. Between 1940 and 1945, the Spanish Navy built 28 of these towers (mostly painted white and red), each in pairs at a distance of 1,240 meters. Between 1941 and 1970, they were used by the Spanish fleet during military exercises to determine positions using deck and cross direction-finding. For maritime mathematical reasons, they always exist in pairs, with one of the two towers always located 200 meters further inland. Today, there are probably less than a dozen of them left.
