On September 1, 1927, Hans Bernhard Jacobi was appointed head of the municipal forest office in Frankfurt. It was from him that the initiative to build the Goethe Tower came from. He found a sponsor for the construction costs in the Jewish merchant Gustav Gerst, persuaded the Frankfurt magistrate to provide the construction timber free of charge, and selected it himself in the city forest.
In addition, the Maunzenweiher was built under his direction from 1928 to 1931 and the Jacobiweiher, later named after him, in 1931/32.
