Anyone who has ever been to downtown Linköping will immediately remember the magnificent cathedral. Because this determines the city center with its venerable cathedral. Visitors feel the old time in the cathedral. For as early as the middle of the 12th century, the place was known as a bishopric. The cathedral was one of the first monuments created to replace older walls. The completion of the cathedral took almost 300 years. It was completed in the 15th century. Therefore, tourists will find two different architectural styles in the huge structure, Gothic and Romantic.
Near the cathedral is the castle, also from the 12th century. The festive building is now used as a seat of government in the province. The medieval character of the town has been preserved to this day. Because the old walls were spared before the war bombers. However, they have been restored over time and renewed in many places. An example of an innovation is the high tower, which towers over the cathedral.

Linköping Cathedral is one of Sweden's best preserved and richest medieval cathedrals. It is the episcopal church of the Diocese of Linköping.
The first stone church in the village was built in the first half of the 12th century. The Romanesque basilica took up about half of the floor area of today's cathedral. The foundations of this church were uncovered during archaeological excavations in the early and mid-20th century. Already at the time of the first church Linköping (Liunga Kaupinga) was mentioned as a bishopric in a document that is now in Florence.
