It is the oldest religious building in the city. The earliest mention of the temple is from 1315. However, this document mentions the founding of the church in 1289. It follows that the church was completed in the second half of the 13th century. According to old German sources, the church "already stood in 1106, when the city received its first privilege from the margrave of Lusatia". The main altar, the pulpit and the baptismal font are preserved in the temple. On July 13, 1496, a fire broke out in the city, which destroyed the church. The roof and the interior were destroyed. Only the walls survived. The temple was rebuilt for 20 years. In 1589 the tower was enlarged and a new altar was built.

Right next to the town hall is the town church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary, which was built in the 13th century. After the fire in 1496, it was rebuilt until 1517.
