The old brewery site, the brewery castle 🏰, is located directly on the banks of the Elz. Today the beer 🍻 is brewed in the brewery in Donaueschingen (Fürstenberg), which acquired it in 2️⃣0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣.

The natural rock cellar 🪨 was once used for the natural storage and maturation of the beer 🍺 at a constant 12 degrees.

People now live in the magnificent and listed "brewery castle". Lofts have been built that were sold out before they were even completed. The Messmer Art Gallery is housed in the front part of the building, which shows temporary exhibitions on classical modernism and contemporary art.

There is even a small brewery again: Römerbräu keeps the Riegel brewing tradition alive, albeit on a smaller scale.

As far as I think I know:

First, the bottling of the beers brewed here was relocated to Fürstenberg approximately 15-20 years ago, and then later the actual brewing as well. Whether this is still the case today is beyond my knowledge.

And finally, the conversion of the former brewery into condominiums / "lofts" followed.

I still like the Riegeler Landbier. And not because of the "plop" 😉 (or not 🥴), but for his taste.
