        The Wöstenesch water mill was the only one of the three mills that could be preserved for posterity. The Prues family leased this "upper Egger mill" for several generations. In 1970, the last miller of that era, Walter Prues, gave up his job due to lack of profitability. The cultural monument owes its good condition today to the local history and tourism association, whose main goal when it was founded in 1975 was to preserve the structure of the rather dilapidated mill building. When more than 100 friends of the homeland decided to breathe life back into the old walls, it was a last-minute rescue (see: xn--heimatverein-eggermhlen-upc.com/woestenesch-wassermuehle )

          The Wöstenesch watermill was the only one of three watermills on the Eggermühlenbach that was preserved and revived by the local community. It bears witness to the long tradition of water mills in this area.

          The Wöstenesch water mill, which belongs to the village of Eggermühlen, is embedded in an old cultural landscape on the edge of the extensive Maiburg forest area. It was the only one of three mills that were originally located on the Eggermühlenbach stream that was preserved. The first documented mention in the archives of the Westphalian noble seat of Darfeld dates back to 1594, when the mill, built by the Cistercian nuns of the Börstel monastery, changed hands for the first time.
