On the next tour along the Ems again!
Hanekenfähr is an area on the Ems between Lingen (Schepsdorf and Darme) and Emsbüren (Elbergen) in the district of Emsland.
A ferry crossed the Ems at this point until the 19th century. The Ems and the Dortmund-Ems Canal merge two kilometers beforehand behind the Gleesen Lock, thus forming the first common course from the Dortmund-Ems Canal (DEK) and navigable Ems to the Emswehr in Hanekenfähr. Today Hanekenfähr is important as a hub in the waterway network of the Ems and as a local recreation area. The Ems forms the municipal boundary between Emsbüren and Lingen. There is also an industrial area bordering on it, which reduces the quality of the local recreation area due to the noise emissions.
In the headland between Ems and Dortmund-Ems Canal there is a hotel, a campsite and a holiday home area. The area on the banks of the Ems and the associated canals is popular with walkers, joggers, cyclists, etc.
Small passenger ships regularly embark on excursions from a landing near Hanekenfähr. There are a large number of leisure and sports boats in several ports around Hanekenfähr.
