    The walled city of Sabbioneta was born to put into reality the concept of the Renaissance "ideal city". The village, of great architectural, artistic and historical value, hosts sumptuous palaces and harmonic alleys. Since 2008 it has been included among the Italian Unesco sites.

          Sabbioneta is the fascinating practical representation of a philosophical ambition: the city was built at the behest of Duke Vespasiano Gonzaga with the aim of realizing the Renaissance concept of the Ideal City in which art, architecture and urban planning represent the highest expression of classicism.

          The sixteenth-century theories that guided its design make Sabbioneta a village of incredible architectural and artistic value: in its streets, in its views and in its buildings you can recognize the perspective theories and the theories of proportions that give the town harmony and elegance .

          Since 2008, Sabbioneta has been included among the Unesco sites, therefore a place declared "of exceptional universal value", a World Heritage Site, and welcomes you to the city wanted by Vespasiano, a treasure trove of art and architecture. We invite you to explore all the beauty of the Ideal City.

          From the Mantua-Sabbioneta Unesco site: “Mantua and Sabbioneta offer an exceptional testimony of urban, architectural and artistic realization of the Renaissance, linked together through the ideas and ambitions of the ruling family, the Gonzagas. They represent the most eminent examples of the two most emblematic modes of urban planning of the Renaissance, respectively the evolutionary and the foundational one. As such, they served as a reference for most of the subsequent city building experiences up to the modern era. The artists who contributed to the creation of the two cities produced masterpieces that brought to fruition the ideals of the early Renaissance, making a decisive contribution to the international spread of a movement destined to influence and shape the whole of Europe ".

              Sabbioneta needs no introduction, already a UNESCO heritage site since 2008. A relatively recent village, it was founded around 1555 at the behest of Vespasiano Gonzaga, with administrative autonomy. It was initially a "small state" located between the Duchy of Milan (then under Spanish domination) and the Gonzaga Duchy of Mantua. Rich in monuments as per the link:
