    After a strenuous ascent, you are rewarded with a great view and (when open) delicious gastronomy. The surrounding trails round off the enjoyment program wonderfully.

          The 706 m high Schwarzwihrberg is the local mountain of the town of Rötz in the Upper Bavarian Forest and rises above the Schwarzachtal.

          The romantic castle ruins of Schwarzenburg are located on the wooded, rocky summit. The Schwarzenburg Rötz Festival takes place here every year with productions under the motto "Fairy tale time for young and old at the Schwarzenburg near Rötz".

                                              What a great castle ruin! The keep and two battery towers of the Schwarzburg, which once stood on the Schwarzwihrberg, are still in good condition.                                               The Schwarzburg was first mentioned in the 11th century. After it was destroyed by the Swedes in the Thirty Years' War, the residents of the surrounding area brought the stones for their houses from the mountain.
