Jämlitz is on the B115, bordering on the Saxon park town of Bad Muskau to the south-east. The first mention of the former vassal property dates back to the year 1302. Jämlitz consists of the Jämlitz district, including the extensions Lug, Alte Schänke and Hermannmühle, the Zschorno and Jämlitz-Hütte districts. The total area of the district is 2,377 ha, most of which is forested. Today about 335 people live in Jämlitz. Jämlitz was formerly part of a Silesian exclave and had belonged to the Muskau estate as a fief since 1658. The best-known owner from 1811 to 1845 was Imperial Count Hermann von Pückler, who was princely in 1822. The first school building was built in 1888 and another was inaugurated in 1905. About 80% of the town was destroyed in the fighting on April 16, 1945. After the kindergarten closed, the old school was converted into a residential building, and the new school into a clubhouse. It now houses the parish office, local history association and a cultural room with a kitchen. The village church is well worth seeing. The foundation stone was laid in 1952 and despite the difficult material conditions, the pastor at the time, Kuhn, organized the construction in such a way that the consecration could take place in the following year (1953).
