It is an abbey of Cistercian nuns whose founding act dates back to 1845 in La Cour Pétral. Part of the house is arranged to receive people looking for peace and quiet.

Contrary to what is insinuated above, the Abbaye Notre-Dame de Clairefontaine is not a Trappist abbey. It is an abbey of Cistercian nuns. Trappists are a branch of the Cistercian order, but not all Cistercians are Trappists.

Close to Bouillon and yet secluded is the Trappist abbey of Clairefontaine-Cordemois. Noteworthy is the embedded in the monastery wall, spoken and illustrated "Father Our".

A wonderful line of trees made of old sycamore trees leads to the monastery parallel to the monastery wall. Unfortunately the monastery shop was closed (Easter Saturday).
