The Evangelical Church in Langenselbold, a town in the Main-Kinzig district of Hesse, was built between 1727 and 1735.
The parish belongs to the Hanau church district of the Evangelical Church of Kurhessen-Waldeck.
Its foundation stone was laid on May 23, 1727 by Count Wolfgang Ernst von Isenburg-Birstein.
The architect was the master builder from the neighboring county of Hanau, Christian Ludwig Hermann, who worked on this project and on the parallel construction project for Langenselbold Castle for Count Wolfgang Ernst.
During the construction of the church, the one at the castle was obviously interrupted.
The church and palace complex relate to one another.
The church was built unplastered in Buntsandstein quarry stone masonry.
The ground plan is an oval with four cross arms.
The southern arm of the cross carries the tower, which is thus located in one of the long sides and emphasizes the transverse church shape of the ground plan.
An entrance is in each of the four projecting arms of the cross.
Inside, the space is transversely oriented.
The pulpit is opposite the main entrance on the north wall.
Above the main entrance, opposite the altar and pulpit, was the stately box.
The interior is determined by a mighty gallery that swings far into the room and has two floors in the west and east.
The building is crowned by a high tent roof.
This is clearly based on the formal language of the Walloon-Dutch Church in the new town of Hanau and on the Reinhardskirche in Steinau an der Straße, begun in 1725, the latter also by Christian Ludwig Hermann.
The building has essentially been preserved in the condition in which it was erected. However, the interior of the church was changed several times in the 19th century.
The colored windows date from 1911. In 1959/60 massive changes were made: the old church pews were removed and the pulpit wall changed.
The last renovation took place in 2005/06.
