The Windsor-style barracks measure 270 by 140 meters and were built as "defensive barracks" between 1865 and 1869 according to plans by Chief of Staff Karl Pilhal and Major Karl Markl. Since 1945, the building has housed, among other things, Vienna police departments. Both the Federal Ministry of Defense and Vienna's traffic control center are now housed there. In the 1990s, the barracks, which were in dire need of renovation, were restored and now shine in new splendor.
