The Morsbach is a 15-kilometer-long stream west of Remscheid. Along its course, it passes the A1 motorway, forms the city border with Wuppertal in its lower reaches, and flows into the Wupper River near Müngsten. The numerous hammer mills and grinding mills located along it are of great importance to the region's industrial history.
Of the 42 streams flowing into the Wupper within the large Wupper quadrangle, the Morsbach is the longest and most water-rich. For centuries, it powered numerous hammer mills and grinding mills. In its heyday, it powered 40 grinding mills and 42 hammers along a nine-kilometer stretch (from Clarenbach to Müngsten). Together with its tributaries, it was the most hydroelectric power plant in the Bergisches Land region, with 176 power plants – including 67 grinding mills and 90 hammers. Its intensive use was made possible by the steep gradient of 1:100. Only in this way could the individual plants – lined up close together – harness the hydropower.

It's a true highlight.

For nature lovers, hiking along the Morsbach River is a must. Not only mycologists (fungus experts), but also animal and plant observers will find their money's worth here. There's so much to see from the Muengsten Bridge Park via Sudberg to the Zillertal and Bergisch Nizza. It's also easily accessible by bike and horseback.

You simply have to experience it for yourself.

If you're hungry or thirsty, we recommend Haus Zillertal with its lovely beer garden.
