At the end of the long and difficult climb of Colle Fauniera (really demanding from all three sides), the statue of Marco Pantani recalls the attack of the "Pirate" in the only stage of the Giro d'Italia that passed through here, in 1999.

Col de la Fauniera is a wild pass! I advise you to go up by the north side, because the surface of the road is less good (easier to avoid potholes uphill than downhill!). On the last kilometers you will see marmots and maybe even other alpine residents! The statue dedicated to Marco Pantani, placed at the top of the climb, recalls one of the finest exploits of the "Pirate".

The tribute to the figure of Marco Pantani at the Colle della Fauniera is a place of worship for lovers of this sport. I have visited it 3 times and I will return whenever the opportunity arises. The statue is not spectacular, but it is a reminder of Pantani and one of his great moments as a cyclist in the first and only time that the Giro d'Italia crossed this port in 1999. Cycling glory to Marco Pantani!!!
