The completion of the paved road that leads from Benizalón to the Hermitage of Nuestra Señora de la Cabeza, also known as the Hermitage of Monteagud, has been one of the most pleasant novelties of "climbing cycle tourism" in the province of Almería.
The ascent, clearly divided into two sections, consists of the port of Toril (whose resurfacing must also be celebrated), which begins from the vicinity of Uleila del Campo and is crowned just fifteen hundred meters from Benizalón, and a second half that After a downhill journey through that town, it begins its departure, being more irregular and which, as we said, was concluded at the beginning of 2015.
At the summit of Monteagud there is an esplanade that closes the hermitage-sanctuary to the east, while looking north, south and west is the space enabled for the brotherhoods corresponding to the towns of the region, the so-called "rooms of the peoples ”. The square, with white ground, has an eight-pointed star drawn in the central part and the main building, that of the hermitage, has two separate parts, a bell tower and the virgin's dressing room, both works made in stone on which appear to be ruins of an ancient fortification. Although the origin of the sanctuary dates back to the Middle Ages and the hill had already been occupied in prehistoric times, the truth is that the whole complex has a fairly modern appearance.
