A must in summer. However, you should be out early, as many of the Herzogstand take the train up. For advanced skiers, a round from Heimgarten over the ridge to the Herzogstand (or vice versa) is no problem. However, you should be free from giddiness, because left and right it goes down, and the piece between the two peaks is a bit long (approx. 1.25 hours), because it goes up and down again and again. But the view along the ridge is phenomenal at all times.
In winter, the ridge is very dependent on the weather. If there is no track or there is a lot of fog at the summit, you should avoid the path along the ridge, as a relatively large number of cornices form along the ridge.

The ridge is easy to see and doesn't look as spectacular from a distance as it does from close up. However, you should only go if you have a head for heights and have a certain surefootedness. The ridge is not suitable for a Sunday walk in floppy shoes. 😆 But when, an absolute MUST. It's a bombastic setting.
