Colle Val d’Elsa, also known as the "crystal capital", is a picturesque town not far from San Gimignano and Monteriggioni. Its ancient part, called Colle Alta, offers particularly suggestive views. Walking through its alleys it is possible to immerse yourself in the medieval atmosphere typical of these places.

Lying along the route of the Via Francigena, the city has been animated by pilgrims and travelers for centuries, who stopped to rest at the foot of its characteristic tower-houses.

Colle di Val d'Elsa is located in a strategic place, between Siena and Florence. It was therefore popular in the Middle Ages as a transit point along the ancient Via Francigena road.

It is known all over the world for the production of crystal glass. It accounts for as much as 15% of world production. It is the capital of Italian crystal, almost all Italian crystal articles are produced here - approximately 95% of domestic production.

Colle di Val d’Elsa is an ancient village in the heart of the Tuscan countryside, between Siena and Florence. In ancient times it was divided into three parts: the Borgo di Santa Caterina, the Castle of Piticciano and the Piano, today simply called "Colle alta" and "Colle low".

The upper part is the oldest part where you can admire the Porta Nova, one of the doors that allowed access to the medieval village.

In addition, in the historic center are the Palazzo Pretorio which houses the Archaeological Museum, containing artifacts from the upper Valdelsa and the Palazzo dei Priori inside which is the Civic and Diocesan Museum with an important art collection of the area.

Other places that deserve to be seen are the tower house of Arnolfo di Cambio, an Italian sculptor and architect, and Palazzo Campana, a historic building with an arch that allows access to Via del Castello (the main street of the historic center).

Another point of interest is the Baluardo, a defensive bastion of the village which is located at the end of the Castle and overlooks the lower town as a terrace. From here you can enjoy a splendid view of the lower part of Colle Val d’Elsa and the Chianti area.
