            The large Münchhausen fountain in the pedestrian zone was created in 1994 by the sculptor Bonifatius Stirnberg from Aachen. This fountain depicts three of the most famous Münchhausen stories: The Horse at the Church Tower, The Flight of the Ducks, and The Ride on the Cannonball. Here's a brief insight into the stories.

            The Horse at the Church Tower: On his way to Russia in the depths of winter, when everything was covered in snow, Münchhausen sat down with his horse and took a nap. He tied the horse to the top of a tree. The next day, he woke up in the middle of the church square with his horse hanging from the church tower.

            The Flight of the Ducks: One day, Münchhausen wanted to go duck shooting at the lake. Using a clever trick, he tied all the ducks to a leash so that none could fly away. He wanted to take them home, but on the way there, they flew back toward the lake, along with Münchhausen.

            Riding on the Cannonball: During the campaign, the marshal wanted to know what the fortress they were besieging looked like. So Münchhausen stood next to one of the cannons and waited for the next ball to come out before jumping on it. He thus flew into the fortress on the cannonball.
