The tiles are part of the Karlsruhe Sun Fan project, an idea that emerged during the 2015 City Citizen Participation initiative. The tiles are from the Karlsruhe Majolika Manufaktur (Karlsruhe Majolica Manufactory).
These yellow rays are intended to emphasize the Karlsruhe fan in the cityscape.

A nice idea with the sun fan. But there were also difficulties at the beginning. When the first designed tiles were laid in Waldstrasse in 2005, it soon became apparent that they were not up to the task. On the one hand, the surface was too slippery for pedestrians, especially when wet, and on the other hand, they were not stable enough and therefore could not cope with car traffic.😊

The sun-shaped building will probably not be completed; at least the municipal council ended the project in 2022.
