The construction of the windmill took place in 1828. A mill owner Dessau concluded with the then independent municipality Pechau a sales contract for the Mühlenbergfleck and then built the mill. In the 1830s, the mill was sold to the Kossaten Friedrich Fricke senior and has since remained in family ownership. In the immediate vicinity of the mill, the old country road led from Magdeburg to Berlin.
In 1896, the mill was struck by lightning and burned down. 1897/1898 was the reconstruction by the miller Friedrich Fricke junior. His son Wilhelm Fricke took over the mill in 1911. Wilhelm Fricke later recalled that during his apprenticeship he was able to see 21 more windmills in the area from the mill platform. As early as 1928, the Pechauer mill was the last of these remaining units.
On December 24, 1924, the four mill wings were demolished by a storm and blown up to 75 meters to the miller's home.
1952, the mill had survived the First and Second World War without significant damage, the operation was handed over to the daughter Ruth Hesse, née Fricke. The increasing need for repair led however already 1954 to the shutdown of the windmill. In 1960, the wings were dismantled to avoid accidents. The mill plant fell into decay. In 1990, a storm destroyed the already broken roof anyway.
With funds from the village renewal program, the mill was repaired from 1992 and taken over by Irma Wuttke, née Hesse. In 1994, the refurbishment was essentially completed and the mill was working again.
