The parish church of Lofer was first mentioned in a document in 1417, and excavations were carried out during the restoration (1994/95). These revealed that there was a church on this site as early as the 14th century. In 1678 the church was significantly expanded by the Rosary Society by opening the nave walls and adding aisles on both sides.

The parish church, dedicated to Saints Mary and Leonhard, belongs to the Deanery Saalfelden of the Archdiocese of Salzburg. The church is under monument protection.
