The Wittigsthal ironworks was founded in the middle of the seventeenth century in Thale, then known as the goat property, by the rich hammer owner Caspar Wittig and named after him. In 1824, Mr. Carl Gotthilf Nestler bought the hammer mill and, after he got rich, rebuilt the mansion in 1836. In 2001 the main building was renovated. Today the "Cafe Im Herrenhaus" is located in this building, with delicious cakes and coffee, small snacks, nice service and fair prices.

Last stop before the border. A beautiful, old, imposing building which unfortunately gets lost in the hustle and bustle of border traffic and is therefore easily overlooked.
