    At 2,697 feet (822 m), Hart Crag is the second highest summit on the Fairfield Horseshoe, behind Fairfield itself. Rarely ascended in isolation, it is easily linked with its parent peak, as well as Dove Crag to the southeast.

    Hart Crag throws a ridge out northeast towards Brothers Water. This long arm contains the Wainwright summit of Hartsop Above How, which can be ascended from the village of Hartsop.

      A great little scramble between Hart Crag and Hartsop Above How. I much prefer going up than coming down though (as with most mountains to be honest)!

        In the hollow between Hart Crag and Fairfield you can look back on Ullswater and Windermere / Grassmere / Rydal Water. On the horizon stretches the sea.

                  One of favourite tops on the Fairfield Hoseshoe but also good when coming up from Hartsop. Nice little scramble too.

                    In my opinion, this "peak* (out of the 8 that are part of the Fairfield Horseshoe) , offers the best views of the valley that route circumnavigates.

                    It is also an opportunity to see anothrr almost identical valley on the far side of that ridge. This summit was the first time I had observed 2 valleys (rivers) starting across a ridge from each other in this manner.

                    I've since learnt there are more than valleys born from this ridge.
