Lady Chapel in Rommelstal
The Marienkapelle was built in the years 2009/2010. The inauguration took place on 19 September 2010. We celebrate the patronal feast of the chapel at the birth of Mary (September 8).
In the Obernauer parish chronicle the following entry can be read under the date August 15, 1945:
"At noon of the Ascension Day, a place was solemnly inaugurated in the Rommelstal to build a chapel in gratitude for the devastation of our village from devastation and in memory of the fallen of the war, to be created by local boys under the direction of Baron von Rechenberg God grant that the work comes about. "
The inauguration was performed by Pastor Heine and the then Guardian from Kloster Weggental. Thereafter, the project rested until 2005, although the responsible for Obernau priest from 1947 Kupferschmid dealt with this topic in 1964.
On the occasion of the church anniversary in 2005, the parish council has taken up the issue again. Through a large appeal for donations, many own achievements, the construction of the chapel could be realized and the promise of 1945 redeemed.
The fact that the chapel is a Marienkapelle is historically justified. The predecessor of today's Peter and Paul Church was a Marian chapel and was mentioned in documents in 1377. At that time Obernau belonged to the parish of St. Peter in Remmingsheim.
