Everything that can be said about the Großer Bullensee applies to the small Bullensee: The name of both lakes has nothing to do with cattle or the police. Wikipedia tells us that they can probably be derived from the Low German verb bullern, which means something like rumble or roar. From the time of superstition, the lakes could be associated with poltergeists or noisy swarms of ghosts. Swimming is prohibited in the small Bullensee.

The Kleiner Bullensee was created towards the end of the last ice age as a relic of a glacier in the Wümme lowlands south of Rotenburg Wümme and north of Kirchwalsede. Half of the Bullensee is located in the municipal areas of the town of Rotenburg Wümme and half in the municipality of Kirchwalsede.

Due to the high acidity caused by the marshy surroundings, no fish live in the two lakes (Großer and Kleiner Bullensee). The lakes and their surroundings are designated as a nature reserve and are also known as a local recreation area in the greater Bremen/Rotenburg Wümme area.

The lake in the forest is of natural origin. Since the Kleiner Bullensee is in the immediate vicinity of the Großes and Weisses Moor and the Großer Bullensee, a trip here can be wonderfully combined with a hike through the moor and/or a walk around the large lake.

Swimming in the lake and other water sports are prohibited on the water.
