Going to the Saut du Doubs means leaping thousands of kilometers and feeling like you're in the middle of the Canadian canyons. The landscapes of this place are magnificent! This waterfall and its pools are classified as a major national site and are located on the border line between Switzerland and France. There are therefore two observation sites for the waterfall.

The Saut du Doubs is a 27-meter-high waterfall located along the Doubs River, which forms the border between France and Switzerland here. The waterfall is the result of a paleohistoric landslide that filled the narrow, gorge-like Doubs Valley, which cuts deep into the limestone formations of the Folded Jura, about 14,000 years ago.

Hiking tip: from Les Brenets on foot to the Saut du Doubs restaurant in around 60 minutes. Large parking lot, free of charge, is available! From the restaurant in about ten minutes to the waterfall. Back, maybe treat yourself to a little snack, then return by boat in 20 minutes or on foot.

In this area, the Doubs forms the border between France and Switzerland. The border line that separates the canton of Neuchâtel from France runs in the middle of the river, as is usual for rivers. As a special feature, the border in the section runs a little downstream in the border area between France and the canton of Jura at the edge of the river. This means that the Doubs belongs entirely to France there. This was due to treaties between the Prince Bishop of Basel and the King of France. The Doubs, with a total length of 453km, also flows through the canton of Jura with a loop of 29km in length, i.e. completely on Swiss sovereign territory.

It's worth viewing the waterfall from the French side. There are two viewpoints. One is right at the waterfall, where you can experience the rushing and roaring sound firsthand. The other viewpoint is a few meters higher up and offers a better and more scenic view of the waterfall.
