The upper gate is a gate tower with a pointed arched gate passage with frame for drawbridge, ground floor made of ashlar masonry, overlying floors made of plastered masonry with plastered corner ashlar and tower clock, massive octagonal attachment with pilaster strips and oculi, mansard roof, core around 1400, conversion with inscriptions in wooden beams Documented in 1648, redesigned in the 18th century, breakthrough of the city wall for pedestrians in the 1930s

The gate with an eight-sided upper storey and a mansard roof was completed in 1648.
In 1765 the architect Johann David Steingruber added the octagonal top to the tower.
It shows the Margravial-Ansbach style and housed the family of the watchman.
Drawbridge and portcullis were integrated, the "traces" can still be seen today.
When the weather is nice, you have a wonderful view of Mainbernheim and the Franconian countryside from the tower apartment.
