Natural heritage Spirkenhochmoor Bayrische Au near Aigen-Schlägl in the Bohemian Forest holiday region
Especially during the time of the Iron Curtain, the small section of the Vltava reservoir that "leaks" over to Austria was a popular destination. In order to make it easier to experience the valuable habitat in the Bavarian Au, the path to it is being expanded. The adventure trail to the Bavarian Au invites you to discover the special world of a moor forest from the perspective of the high moor ground beetle "Cara". Cara the raised moor ground beetle has specialized in life in the moor forest and accompanies visitors at all stages of the hike.
Suddenly the vegetation changes, the path becomes damp, the ground gives way underfoot, pines and pines line the path. You are now entering the Bavarian Au with the only Spirken high moor in Austria. The high moor area offers habitat for a variety of plants and animals such as the spire, a relic from the Ice Age, downy birch, mountain pine, bog bilberry and cranberry, cotton grass, various marsh grasses and many species of butterflies.
