The geographical center of Flanders is located exactly in the far corner of East Flanders near the border with Sint-Amands. The coordinates are: 51° 2' 16" N, 4° 14' 26" E.
In 2003, a work by the Opdorp sculptor Roger Van Den Eede was placed (approximately) at this point. The farmer preferred not to have the artwork in the middle of his plot, so the statue was placed on the edge a few dozen meters away.

The Center of Flanders
Do you need to know something now? Science students from KU Leuven were recently assigned the task of determining the geographical center of Flanders. Well, someone has to do it. After approximately 120 hours of work, they determined that the center is located right in Opdorp, on the fields of farmer De Keyser.

They couldn't let that go unnoticed here. So there has been a sculpture there ever since with the appropriate name Het Middelpunt. Keep your eyes peeled near junction 92 on the route! And for a moment you imagine yourself as the center of the world – or at least Flanders.
