    The area around the dam Heyda is a well-known recreational area and invites every nature lover to go hiking. The dam dams the Wipfra at Ilmenau in southern Thuringia. The dam was built from 1980 to 1988 and put into operation in 1989 for irrigation purposes. Further uses are: low water elevation, service water supply, flood protection and of course local recreation. On the photos you can see the area around the dam, as well as the green dam itself.

                    Unterwegs im Herzen Thüringens – auf dem Thüringenweg ist der Name Programm.
                    Doch Vorsicht: Der Wanderweg ist nichts für unerfahrene Wanderer, denn er wird weder gepflegt noch ist er ausreichend beschildert.
                    Hier ist eine Karte - egal ob gedruckt oder digital - äußerst hilfreich.
                    Der Thüringenweg ist ein rund 410 km langer Wanderweg, der von Osten nach Westen Thüringens führt.
                    Dabei werden acht Landkreise und drei kreisfreie Städte durchquert.
                    Es gibt also einiges Geschichtsträchtiges zu sehen.
                    Zudem lockt eine üppige und reizvolle Natur.
                    Start ist in Altenburg am Fuße des Erzgebirges, das Ziel in Creuzburg an der Werra.
                    Der Thüringenweg lässt sich gut in 23 Etappen wandern.
                    Die Wanderung beginnt in Altenburg.
                    Die ehemalige Kaiserpfalz und Residenzstadt der Herzöge von Sachsen-Altenburg bietet nicht nur eine sehenswerte Altstadt, sondern ist auch als „Skatstadt“ bekannt.
                    Seit dem 16. Jahrhundert werden hier bereits Spielkarten hergestellt, und so ist es auch nicht verwunderlich, dass in Altenburg Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts das Skatspiel erfunden wurde.
                    Seit 2001 sitzt hier das Internationale Skatgericht, das über strittige Fälle entscheidet.
                    Über Schmölln und Ronneburg führt der Weg als nächstes nach Greiz.
                    Besonders sehenswert ist das Obere Schloss, das hoch auf dem Schlossberg thront.
                    Aber auch dem Greizer Park lohnt es sich, einen Besuch abzustatten.
                    Nachdem wir Gera hinter uns gelassen haben, erreichen wir Bad Köstritz, in dem seit mehr als 500 Jahren das Köstritzer Bier gebraut wird. Nächster wichtiger Wegpunkt ist die alte Universitätsstadt Jena.
                    Hier sollte der Wanderer unbedingt etwas Zeit für die Besichtigung der zahlreichen Sehenswürdigkeiten einplanen.
                    Weiter geht es über Bad Berka, Großkochberg, Rudolstadt und Bad Blankenburg nach Paulinzella.
                    Hier stellt das imposante Schloss Heidecksburg einen absoluten Höhepunkt dar.
                    Etwas später auf der Wanderung rückt die Burg Greifenstein in den Blick.
                    Nun verläuft der Thüringenweg weiter über Singen, Traßdorf, die Talsperre Heyda, Martinroda, Angelroda, Gräfenroda, Crawinkel, Friedrichroda, Tabarz, Winterstein und Ruhla bis Eisenach.
                    Sehenswürdigkeiten sind der historische Marktplatz, das Barockschloss und die Georgenkirche, in der einst Johann Sebastian Bach getauft wurde und später auch als Organist tätig war.
                    Nicht versäumen sollte der Wanderer, hier auch der Wartburg einen Besuch abzustatten.
                    Erbaut im 11. Jahrhundert, gehört sie heute zum Weltkulturerbe der UNESCO.
                    In Creutzburg endet der Thüringenweg schließlich.
