The former hunting lodge of Prince-Bishop Dietrich Adolph von der Recke is a listed building and is now owned by the Catholic parish of St. Johannes Nepomuk. The historic half-timbered building is now a Hövelhof landmark and a popular photo backdrop. The castle gardens are a great place to linger. The Hövelhof Tourist Information and the Ems Cycle Path office are located in the adjacent building.

The hunting lodge is one of the most beautiful highlights in the small town of Hövelhof. In the center is the farm, which is closely interwoven with the origins of the community. The farm was first mentioned in the 1000s and is therefore one of the original farms. The beautiful half-timbered building was built in 1661 for Prince-Bishop Adolf von Recke as a hunting lodge. Almost 60 years later it was used as a Catholic rectory. In the following years, several extensions were added.

There are a few cafés around the Hövelhof, which are ideal for a short break. The hunting lodge itself houses the local tourism office and the tourist office. Hövelhof's listed landmark is also home to the parish of St. Johannes Nepomuk. Anyone who wants to learn more about the history of the community of Hövelhof and marvel at one of the oldest buildings in the region should stop here.
