"Moore are among the few habitats in the Teveren Heath that develop largely unaffected by humans. The "Wiggelewack" heath moor is an intermediate moor that is influenced by groundwater and rainwater. Typical plants in this habitat are the aromatic-scented gagel (also called heather myrtle) and the cotton grass. The name "Wiggelewak" refers to the shaky, peaty subsoil."

"... The word moor comes from Low German and is a designation

for a permanently damp, spongy, animal-poor terrain with characteristic plant communities on a peat cover at least 30 cm thick. The basic prerequisite for the formation of a bog is a large excess of water, which promotes the growth of moisture-loving plants.

In addition, the excess water creates anaerobic conditions that inhibit the microbial degradation of dead plant parts and initiate a carbonization process that leads to peat formation.

After the last Ice Age, during the period that followed, which was still cold, so-called mudden (deposits of mud) formed in the meltwater and backwater lakes that had remained between the moraines. Depending on their formation, a distinction is made between fens (low moors, reeds) that were formed when lakes silted up, raised moors (peat bogs, heathland moors) that were formed in the rainwater zone, and transitional moors (intermediate moors) where both types alternate. Typical plants in fens are cattails, Sedges, reeds, black alder and willow, typical plants of the raised bog are peat moss, cotton grass, heather, bulrush and hair rush. Birches and pines and different proportions of the plant communities of the fens and raised bogs occur in the transitional bog. ..."
