The mill

The core of the mill ensemble is the undershot water mill from 1843. Its mighty water wheel drives the intact grinding gears inside.

The first flour mill from the middle of the 12th century had been operated by the monastery since the monastery was founded in 1182 and from 1630 by the magistrate of the Hanoverian domain administration.

Due to the inheritance interest regulation, the mill experienced several millers as private entrepreneurs from 1779 until it was demolished and replaced by a new one. The mill was owned by the Steffens family for almost 140 years.

In 1971 her active time came to an end. A few years later, the municipality of Stuhr acquired the buildings of the mill ensemble and restored them.

The technical facilities were restored and made functional by the Mühlen-Gemeinschaft Heiligenrode. (More can be found online and locally)
