The Russenwiese is a larger forest meadow in the Nuremberg Forsthof. Today it is a beautiful, quiet place for hiking near the city; Their story - which also gave their name - is anything but idyllic: during World War I there was a camp for Russian prisoners of war; at the time of the Nuremberg rallies the meadow served as a campground for participants in this mass event; At the end of 1942, a camp for forced laborers was finally built there. After a heavy bombing raid with a large number of victims, the camp was relocated in 1943.
In the meantime, nature has completely erased traces of the sad history of the Russian meadow.

The so-called Russenwiese is located near Nuremberg's Valznerweiherstrasse. During the Second World War, up to 2,000 forced laborers, mainly from Eastern Europe, were housed in a temporary tent camp.
