Schneeberg (257 m.)

The top of the Schneeberg is located in Germany and is part of the Bocholtz Plateau. The Schneeberg owes its name to the limestone soil, which has a strikingly light (white) color in summer compared to the surrounding hills. At the foot of the mountain is the Dutch village of Oud-Lemiers, the starting point of the normal route to the top at 257 m.
Concrete tank barriers ("dragon's teeth") and bunkers, parts of the Siegfried Line from the Second World War, can still be found around the Schneeberg. Because of its strategically favorable location, the Germans were able to keep a close eye on the surroundings of Vaals and fire at it. To the southeast you have a good view from the top of Aachen and the Lousberg, to the east you can see the Wilhelminaberg with the ski slope and on the horizon the smoke plumes of the brown coal power plant at Eschweiler. To the north you have a view of Sittard in clear weather.
