It is the only one of the "planned cities" built during Fascism to be considered a city of art. And that's right: the D-shaped Piazza della Repubblica and the sports center with the adjoining elementary school are very well preserved in their particular rationalist architecture in pastel colors.

Located in the province of Ferrara, a few kilometers from the Este city and about 60 from the Via Emilia, Tresigallo rises between the Apennines and the Adriatic: in a privileged position, halfway between the capital and the sea.
Tresigallo, a city of re-foundation - as scholars have defined it -, a true "ideal city" of the twentieth century, born from a dream of Edmondo Rossoni, Minister of Agriculture and Forests of the 1930s, today it appears a very precious capital of Italian rationalism, conceived on the model of the 'new cities' built between the two wars.
There is an estranging and metaphysical dimension in Tresigallo, a sort of crazy calm due to the fact that the urban and architectural language has not undergone particular alterations over time.
In 2004 the Emilia Romagna Region included Tresigallo in the prestigious circuit of the Cities of Art of Italy.
According to the Region, Tresigallo is the full-scale application of the German school theories on the democratic design of the "new city"; it represents a happy and absolutely solitary experience of Italian rationalist architecture; it is one of the few remaining examples of a city of foundation designed on a desk.
It is therefore, in its entirety, a historical and cultural asset and as such must be re-evaluated and defended.
Today it is the only Italian Foundation City recognized as a City of Art.
