The Torre del Ramil, also known as the Torre de los Moros, is a watchtower, located in the municipality of Alcóntar, and one kilometer from Hijate, on a small hill.
The Torre del Ramil was part of the network of fortifications and defensive points. Built in Nasrid times, its function was to monitor, defend and warn neighboring towns in case of attack, in this case the Somontín tower (to the south) and the Caniles tower (to the north). During the day they communicated with smoke and at night with reflections of light, with mirrors.
The Almanzora valley was a warlike place due to the border with Murcia, so it was the main communication hub. Circular in plant, it is built in stone. Access to the Torre del Ramil was from the top, where it was reached with a wooden staircase. The roof and part of the coronation wall have disappeared due to the harsh weather conditions in the area and over the years.
