On the right bank of the Rhine between 635 and 2605 m.ü.M. Perhaps something forgotten by the rest of the world, lies Valendas. Together with the idyllic hamlets of Carrera, Brün, Dutjen and Turisch, there are around 300 people living on this beautiful spot. They are proud of the enchanting landscape with its magnificent views, the deeply cut rivers and the direct access to the fantastic natural wonder "Ruinaulta-Rheinschlucht".
But also the village itself and the partially under protection of the hamlet offer many surprises. Did you know that the largest wooden fountain in Europe with its mysterious mermaid stands in the middle of Valendas?
The 500-year-old Engihuus at Europe's largest wooden well in Valendas has been rebuilt and expanded. The Gasthaus am Brunnen has created a powerful meeting place. The realization was by the architect Gion A. Caminda (Vrin).
People are on the way. It has always been like this. The settlement of the Safien Valley began with the immigration of the Walser. About 700 years ago, they moved over mountains and passes and populated the sparsely inhabited high valleys in the Alps. The transit routes from north to south and into the neighboring valleys over the passes have always been maintained by the Walser. Today you can hike on more than 200 kilometers of well-marked mountain hiking trails and explore the Safiental-Rheinschlucht-Naturpark Beverin, the mountains and passes, the water landscapes, the way of life and the architecture of the Walser.
Walk the sunny and wild and romantic region and relax in the fresh mountain air.
