The tiny village of Buchholz im Brohltal was once dominated by a provost's church. Benedictines from Gladbach (now Mönchengladbach) had established a small religious order here. After secularization, the site came into private hands and was partly demolished and partly converted to agricultural use (a barn and pigpen). Later generations of the owners no longer had any use for it and planned its complete demolition.

A support association was founded, took ownership of the remaining parts of the church, and was able to ensure its preservation through donations and public funds. Thus, thanks in part to the great commitment of volunteers (!), at least parts of the former provost's church still stand and are used for cultural events.

The Buchholz provostship was built in 1135 as a branch of the Benedictine Abbey of Gladbach. The facade of the church of St. Servatius is a listed building.
