In September 2005, the memorial's support association erected a three-ton millstone to commemorate the Billmuthausen Mill. The memorial has also been expanded with three new information panels.
This former millstone is the only reminder of the former Billmuthausen mill. Billmuthausen was once a village directly on the border and was razed.

Billmuthausen was first mentioned in 1340 as Billmuthehusen. The village was essentially a manor. In 1840, Billmuthausen had 14 houses, a mill, and a church; by 1850, the village had 68 inhabitants. The mill had a milling and grinding mill, its own water and electricity supply, and a bakery. During the military expansion of the border, the weir for the mill race was destroyed, thus cutting off the water supply to the mill.
