A very complex, almost spectacular bicycle and pedestrian bridge leads over the lock at the Weser weir. Here you can actually drive on the weir without dismounting. Very conveniently laid out and a rarity on river crossings!

Bremen has a hydroelectric power station since 2011. The power plant runs underground beside the
existing Weserwehr and delivers an average of 39 million kilowatt hours of electricity per year. That's enough
to supply about 15,000 Bremen households with electricity - and saves the atmosphere
around 15,000 tons of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide annually. The plant with a capacity of up to
ten megawatts (MW) is currently the largest tide-dependent run-of-river power plant in Germany.

For the maintenance and servicing of the weir flaps, the individual sections of the weir can be closed upstream and downstream with emergency seals and then pumped out.
In the weir weir there is an inspection passage that runs the entire length of the weir. A service bridge leads over the Weser weir, which can also be used by pedestrians and cyclists. The bridge is about five meters above the upper water. It connects to the service bridge over the locks so that passers-by can cross the entire barrage.

The Heimelinger lock at the Weserwehr serves the ships at the transition from Mittelweser to Unterweser. The Weser is dammed here in Bremen. In the two locks you can watch from above as the ships in the two lock channels are driven up or down. Especially with children a great experience.
